Why should you volunteer with YMCA Derbyshire?

Volunteering with  YMCA is a great way to share your skills, learn new skills and build new friendships. There are many benefits to volunteering, from knowing that you’re making a contribution to your local community, to enhancing your CV and job prospects.

We encourage our residents and learners to develop their work readiness skills through a range of volunteering and work experience opportunities. In addition, we look to widen their network of support by recruiting and training volunteer mentors from the business and public community sectors to offer guidance and support.

What is a mentor?

Mentors help service users to establish a vocational plan and create a good quality CV to put our young people on the path to vocational success.

Mentors add value to our service provision and in return they gain a lot of satisfaction from understanding and supporting the needs of our young people. We offer volunteer mentors training and support opportunities that can, if our mentors wish, become an accredited qualification, which some employers see as valuable in the professional development of their staff. This can be the classic ‘win-win’ situation. Mentors add value to our service users and we in turn can add value to our mentors.

If you are interested in becoming a mentor please email enquiries@ymcaderbyshire.org.uk with the title ‘Mentoring’.

Thank you.
