YMCA Derbyshire is collaborating with Seven Restaurant to raise £30,000 towards a new training and education centre for young people.
Funds from the YMCA’s annual ceilidh dinner dance will go towards developing a centre of excellence.
YMCA Key College specialises in educating young people for whom mainstream education may have been unsuitable.
All learners are assessed to provide them with an individual learning plan for the duration of their vocational course, which may involve one-to-one support.
Education and training provided by YMCA differs to the mainstream by concentrating on the individual with small class sizes and a welcoming learning space.
Gillian Sewell, YMCA Derbyshire’s chief executive, said: “During the next academic year, YMCA Key College will be providing vocational education to around 150 study programme learners.
“We will also help a further 100 young people from local schools where we will enhance their educational experience and employment opportunities.
“YMCA will build on our good Ofsted inspection, our proven track record in delivering high quality accredited qualifications and our Award for Excellence in Providing Alternative Provision by listening to the needs of local employers and the aspirations of local young people.
“We change lives through education, offer support and guidance of the highest standard and protect and safeguard the young people in our care.”
The ceilidh dinner dance takes place on Friday October 4 in the Marquee at the Pattonair County Ground, home of Derbyshire County Cricket Club.
Seven Restaurant’s general manager, Campbell Salloway, said: “We are proud to be helping YMCA Derbyshire with such a great event.
“Now that we have become established on Pride Park, we are striving to give back to the community of Derby which has given so much to us.
“The YMCA does such magnificent work and we would encourage as many people as possible to support them and also have a superb evening.”
Local ceilidh band Speed the Plough will be playing on night and tickets are £45 and £450 per table. For ticket enquiries, please email email@example.com.
