YMCA Derbyshire is recruiting an I-Lead volunteer to facilitate woodwork-based sessions at The Campus in Derby. We would like a competent leader with practical or woodwork skills to offer support to individuals attending the men in sheds project. An I-Lead volunteer would be expected to uphold the organisations values whilst both working on-site and off-site, and work with a community-led focus. Possible activities for this role are, but not limited to:

  • Facilitating woodwork sessions
  • Teaching attendees how to use tools and machinery
  • Communicating with attendees and staff
  • Supporting attendees
  • Monitoring a safe environment
  • Facilitating off-site sessions
  • Sharing knowledge and ideas
  • Promoting independence
  • Encouraging skill development

A volunteer men in sheds facilitator will be based at The Campus, 770 London Road, Derby, DE24 8UT. Volunteering hours will be negotiated between applicants and the accommodation manager before the role begins.

The ideal volunteer would have sufficient experience in general woodworking or practical skills with a desire to share those skills with others. Applicants with experience in training, education or community work might also be suitable for this role. Applicants with other relevant experience will also be considered.

Because of the work YMCA Derbyshire does, a DBS certificate will be required for successful applicants before they enter the role; YMCA Derbyshire will manage and pay for the DBS certificate on behalf of applicants. Volunteers will be supported in their role and have access to supervisions.
