Building Better Opportunities – Money Sorted
YMCA Derbyshire is recruiting a volunteer who can add value to the work that we do on the Building Better Opportunities (BBO) programme, funded by the National Lottery Community Fund and European Social Fund. We work with individuals who have complex needs to offer them support and guidance with a focus on improving their financial capability. A volunteer would be expected to work closely with individuals accessing the scheme and assist them to navigate daily challenges. Possible activities of this role are, but not limited to:
- Making phone calls
- Arranging appointments for participants
- Assisting participants to appointments/meetings
- Helping to access benefits
- Have therapeutic conversations
- Assisting with paperwork
- Address concerns
The volunteer peer support worker role will be based at The Campus, 770 London Road, Derby, DE24 8UT. Volunteering hours will be negotiated between applicants and management before the role begins.
The ideal applicant would have experience working in the benefits system or around money management, but this is not essential. We recognise the people we support could benefit from individuals with a varied range of experience and skills. This role might also be suitable for students working towards relevant qualifications, that can apply their learnt skills and knowledge to the role.
Because of the work YMCA Derbyshire does, a DBS certificate will be required for successful applicants before they enter the role; YMCA Derbyshire will manage and pay for the DBS certificate on behalf of applicants. Volunteers will be supported in their role and have access to supervisions.
