Katy began living at YMCA Derbyshire throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. During these difficult times, the accommodation team working directly with our young people provided support in the form of one-to-one sessions, advice drop-ins and food parcels.
“The food parcels I was given helped me loads when I needed food because I ran out or couldn’t go to the shop.”
Businesses in Derby have also supported YMCA Derbyshire’s young people by supplying digital equipment including mobile phones, dongles, tablets and laptops.
“The tablet I got for the course I’m a part of at YMCA has also really helped me because now I can do all my studying without being disturbed on the computer in the communal area and can go to my room instead.”
The team at YMCA Derbyshire are so pleased to see how well Katy is doing. It’s been a difficult time for so many young people, having to adapt to new ways of life and isolation in some cases. Katy has worked hard to overcome obstacles and move forward to progress with her life.
“My mental health is a rocky road but I know there is support and help out there whenever I might need it.”
