We are thrilled to be semi-finalists in THREE categories of the YMCA England and Wales Youth Matters Awards 2021; YMCA of the Year, Health and Wellbeing Project of the Year and Covid Community Impact.
However, to get to the final, we needs votes from YOU! Below is a little more info on why we think we deserve to win this prestigious award.
Our team have worked tirelessly throughout the last 18 months to support our young people in a variety of ways. Since the outbreak of Covid-19, we regularly adapted our services to meet the ever-increasing and changing needs of young people and the community. The team provided virtual one-to-one sessions, quizzes, food parcels and hot meals to combat loneliness and isolation.
Our ‘This is Derby’ project, which we run in collaboration with Derby County Community Trust and Baby People, has helped support over 2,000 young people. By engaging with positive activities including DJ sessions, one-to-one chats and online sports, young people have a safe space to express themselves and feel included.
The Covid Community Impact award recognises a YMCA that has delivered a project of initiative outside of the scope of their normal offer, serving the community’s needs during the pandemic.
During the first and second lockdowns, our community connector was cooking and delivering 200 meals to isolated and lonely people in the community, many of whom had not had a cooked meal for weeks. Our YMCA Key College team also supported students and their families with food parcels and internet dongles to do their course work.
