We are very pleased to announce that we have been accredited for the third year running by The Foyer Federation.
The national federation represent and accredit Foyer providers to maintain a high standard of accommodation and learning.
YMCA Derbyshire is currently home to 40+ young people who have the opportunity to develop their life skills, social skills and confidence in a safe and supportive Foyer environment.
This is achieved through a combination of their 1-1 coaching and the Foyer Learning Hub which delivers activities and sessions designed to grow each individual’s talents. Learning and coaching is focused on the seven strengths of; housing, money, personal development, social connections, health & wellbeing, learning and working.
Gillian Sewell, CEO of YMCA Derbyshire said:
“The Foyer Federation accreditation is so important to our YMCA. Not only because we’re proud to be part of a nationwide effort to support young people, but because we know how much it can change the lives of those we serve.
Our Foyer ethos is Live – Learn – Grow and we work tirelessly to ensure each young person has the best opportunity to gain the skills to live independently and to grow their talent.”
The Foyer has dedicated staff members to support, coach and mentor each young person along their journey of becoming more independent. Eventually, the aim for each Foyer resident is to move on from the campus and into their own homes.
Each young person has the opportunity for their voice to be heard by co-producing activities and sessions with YMCA staff. For some, this can be a first time experience, getting to share their passions and interests with their peers.
Alfie, who takes part in the Foyer Learning Hub weekly said:
“I really enjoy the interactive activities. Having sessions where all of us need to really get involved either physically or mentally are the best. It helps us to get to know each other and more about how we feel inside.”
