Mentoring

Do you want to help young people realise their ambitions and unlock their potential? By sharing your experience, encouragement and insight, you can support them to build confidence, seize opportunities and achieve their personal and vocational goals.

Our young people already possess the aspirations, strengths and potential to achieve great things. The key is ensuring they have access to the relationships, opportunities and role models that help turn those aspirations into reality.

How you will make a difference as a mentor

Supporting young people to realise their assets and talents.

Being a ‘listening ear’ for young people to share their thoughts, concerns and successes.

Empowering young people to succeed.

Having regular meetings with young people at YMCA Campuses.

What We Ask of Those Mentoring:

We anticipate mentors volunteering for around 4 hours per month for a minimum of six months.

Patience and understanding.

Positive, supportive and encouraging attitude.

A keen interest in helping young people to belong, contribute and thrive.

Become a Mentor

The young people taking part in our mentoring programme are actively working towards their personal, educational and career goals. Like all of us, they may experience challenges or setbacks along the way and occasionally need extra encouragement to stay connected and engaged. As a mentor, you won’t be doing this alone. YMCA Derbyshire will work closely with you, offering ongoing support and guidance to help each young person continue building on their strengths and achieving their aspirations.
