Alfie joined YMCA Stepping Stones in 2022. His guardian recently wrote to the team at the nursery to express their gratitude for the care he has received.

“My son has blossomed and progressed so much since starting at YMCA Stepping Stones, and this is thanks to the support from all the staff. Alfie couldn’t communicate well, however with the encouragement of the staff members he is now able to communicate his needs a lot better.

In January 2023, we discussed joint concerns about Alfie and the team at YMCA Stepping Stones made a referral for an autism assessment and speech and language therapy. From that moment, the support and encouragement that we both received was nothing short of excellent.

All the staff understand Alfie’s needs and always ensure that he is looked after well and that he does not miss out on opportunities even though he has challenges. The support I have received as well is just as excellent. It feels that even though Alfie is there attending nursery, I receive just as much help as he does. Jenny is always on hand to help me navigate the treacherous waters of the EHCP and autism assessment.

The feeling within the nursery is always positive and welcoming, Alfie is very settled in this setting. The fact he can now communicate his needs makes me so proud and so hopeful for the future. I can’t thank the staff enough for everything they have done.

I am so pleased I made the decision to send Alfie to the nursery as I strongly believe he wouldn’t have progressed the way that he has without them. I wish that I could express my eternal gratitude to everyone as I would have been lost without them.”
