Youth Matters Awards 2022
Staff, residents, and students from YMCA Derbyshire are celebrating after winning two incredible accolades at the highly anticipated YMCA Youth Matters Awards on Friday 18th November.
The team are exceptionally pleased to announce one of their young people, Jamie, walked away from the evening with the Young Achiever of the Year award. Jamie has worked hard since moving into YMCA Derbyshire to gain confidence, enter education, take on a full-time job and move into his own accommodation. This award truly highlights how far Jamie has come along his positive pathway.
YMCA Derbyshire Crowned YMCA of the Year
Alongside Jamie’s award, YMCA Derbyshire was crowned YMCA of the Year for 2022. The YMCA of the Year Award recognises a YMCA which has delivered an innovative and inspiring local project, programme or scheme that has created a tangible and positive impact on young people and the wider community.
The organisation, which has operated across Derbyshire for the past 175 years, has increased its support of young people and community members over the last 12 months. The team is proud to have accommodated 362 individuals, provided training and education for over 150 young people at YMCA Key College, and provided childcare within 5 different schools with YMCA Y-Kidz.

The team I work with at YMCA Derbyshire are simply outstanding. Day after day lives are being saved, developed, supported, transformed, and enabled. I could not be prouder and more satisfied my colleagues and the achievements of those we serve has been recognised in the most splendid of ways.
I have also watched Jamie grow since the day he arrived at our YMCA and cannot begin to explain the journey he has been on. He shines so brightly and deserved this recognition so much. I am immensely grateful that he was able to enjoy this moment.

Winter 2022 is going to be one of the hardest yet. With the cost of living crisis and cuts in government funding YMCA Derbyshire will be doing all we can to support those in need.
Our next big fundraiser will be our Jolly Jumper Campaign, don a Christmas Jumper and raise money for YMCA Derbyshire. Every pound raised will make a young persons Christmas a little brighter.
