YMCA Derbyshire Key College and Derwent Stepping Stones Unite To Enhance Early Years and Health & Social Care Workforce

YMCA Key College and Derwent Stepping Stones are excited to announce that they have formed a new partnership which will support both organisations in realising their future aspirations to grow the early years and health and social care workforce.

Relocation of Osmaston Road Campus, YMCA Key College

In a major step forward to realising this vision, both organisations are delighted to announce that from the 28th August 2023, YMCA Key College will be relocating from its current Osmaston Road delivery site to St Marks road, in the Derwent area of the city, for the delivery of our Early Years and Health and Social Care study programme courses.

The two organisations share an ethos of high-quality support for families and lifelong learning. therefore, this collaboration is a strong fit for both and enables us both to have a stronger impact.

Key College Provision Details

YMCA Key College will continue to provide a range of accredited full-time education for young people aged 16-18, and, if the student has an Education Health and Care (EHC) plan, up to the age of 24 in some instances. The provision is open to learners to start at any point in the year. Group sizes are small, and we offer enhanced wrap around support for learners who need a smaller college environment to enable them to thrive and progress further in their studies. The supportive provision that we provide also enables students to access employers directly, as well as additional resources that support them with future employment opportunities within their communities.

The priority for Derwent Stepping Stones will continue to be delivering high quality, local, flexible, affordable, childcare at St Marks Road.

Janet Holland, CEO of Derwent Stepping Stones, state that: “DSS is thrilled to be able to welcome Key College provision to share our purpose built, child focused environment in the heart of the community. The opportunity will enable:

• Shared thinking about practice

• Real life work experience for students

• Progression routes into apprenticeships

• Practitioners to embrace new ideas

• Sector specific training and development

• Experienced staff to share their knowledge

• Coaching and mentoring for local young people

• Ability to co-produce curriculum for students and children

Gillian Sewell CEO of YMCA Derbyshire said “Our partnership with Derwent Stepping Stones is going from strength to strength, and the opportunity to relocate our Key College provision from our current Osmaston road site to the St Mark Road site, is really positive step for both organisations. The training centre facilities, which were purpose built for supporting training and development of local people, will offer a really positive, safe, accessible learning environment for our Key College learners’.
